This is a Generic Function document GF Distribution Version: 0.3 OIAr logo
Document type: Generic Function Owner:

J.A.H. Schoonderbeek

Description

This Generic Function belongs to Working Area Network. The Distribution function is used to route incoming data to one or more destination, based upon a more or less complex rule set. The simplest rule set would duplicate incoming data to two different destinations, the most complex rule sets would use the incoming data itself, meta-data obtained from elsewhere, and environmental parameters and conditions to make the routing decisions.

When routing is based on relatively simple criteria, such as routing information in the incoming data, this function can be used by itself. When routing is based on more complex criteria, it can be useful to add the Rules Engine function to model/describe those complex criteria.

While this function is found often in network and other data transport facilities, it can also be useful in complex facilities that store or process data.
