Description

This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Security & Support (SS). A Logging facility serves as a central place where logging can be performed of relevant events on one or more facilities in an IT infrastructure. Placing this facility in a central place makes it possible to analyse logs from different sources, and create relations between logged incidents (possibly based on automatic normalization and correlation of logging messages). Since logs are also used as the main source for the generation of a broad range of audit reports, a centralized form of Logging may also serve as part of an auditing facility.

Note that application of this facility results in a location where logs can be found; the facilities to work with these logs are not included. Hence, this facility is often coupled with one or more of the following facilities:
