Description

This Building Block Type belongs to Working Area Network (NW). Access is a logical infrastructure function that provides an entry point into an infrastructure (e.g. via a data network) for devices with an appropriate interface. Physical connectivity can be provided by means of any of several media (e.g. copper wires, fibre, radio waves). Each media type has its own data transport characteristics. To achieve connectivity, protocols used by the connection interface of a device and the access facility should match at least up to the Data Link Layer of the OSI-model.
